“Hey look, there’s that thingamajig I’ve needed for years!”

“Oh, and yes, right next to that dish we used to have in the kitchen.”

“Mom, can I get a hotdog!?”

 “No. We want ice cream!”

The sights and sounds of Downtown Petoskey’s Sidewalk Sales are upon us. Saddle up to the tables and find that item you’ve always wanted, or have been looking for since, well, since whenever.

Bushels in the Petoskey Sidewalk Sales

The streets will be blocked to traffic and you can wander to your heart’s content among the shops, restaurants, and studios of Downtown Petoskey. Grab a hotdog or brat at Symons General Store. Find a precious Petoskey Stone earring at North Goods. Maybe saunter into American Spoon for a few jars of cherry, peach or strawberry preserves. Oh, and don’t forget lunch at Julienne Tomatoes or browse the Farmer’s Market for some blueberries or a pie. Local favorites like Grandpa Shorter’s, McLean & Eakin, The Clothes Post, and Monarch will welcome one and all with open arms.

A happy shopper in petoskey sidewalk sales.

Everyone and everywhere will be ready for the homespun fun of the 52nd Annual Sidewalk Sales on Friday, July 28th from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and finishing up on Saturday, July 29th from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

T-shirts, sweatshirts, fudge and even caramel corn will tempt the tourist and townie, alike. And if Friday isn’t enough, you can catch even more bargains on Saturday before the merchants take down the tables.

At local clothier’s, fall and winter fashions need room, so leftover spring and fading summer apparel are often a big hit of the sales. Racks and racks of clothes line the streets awaiting savvy shoppers.

For whatever reason and with whomever you arrive, enjoy the downtown like you never have before. And if not buying or not eating, find a bench in Pennsylvania Park or along Mitchell, Lake, Howard, or Bay Streets and watch the people. They’re a plenty!
