Some of you remember, but most have only seen pictures of a white gazebo, usually with patriotic bunting, surrounded by people in chairs, on blankets, or leaning against an elm tree listening to a local musician on a warm summer afternoon. Some may envision a solo guitar, a John Phillips Sousa recital, or maybe even a choir. Perhaps the town’s barbershop quartet makes an appearance.
Welcome to Concerts in Pennsylvania Park. Throughout the summer on each Friday at noon, a different solo musician, band or ensemble will serenade anyone within earshot. The clouds meander overhead, birds flit through the trees, and people picnic as the melodies carry forth.
Pennsylvania Park runs between Bay Street and Mitchell Street, but the gazebo is situated in between, a few feet from Lake Street. The deli’s and shops around the park offer quick access to sandwiches and snacks, so you don’t have to pack a lunch, and then when the music stops, the shops are open for your perusal. If you’d like to make your own lunch, The Grain Train organic grocery store is a few blocks away on Mitchell Street.
In the spirit of the summer and music around town, there are also venues in the evening where music is a highlight. The Noggin Room at the Perry Hotel is a favorite of returning guests and vacationers along with many eateries and pubs within Downtown Petoksey. Because of the varied schedules and changing musicians, it’s best to visit the website of a particular establishment.
