Anytime the City of Petoskey closes off the downtown streets, you know there’s a BIG party to be had. On Friday, June 2nd, the annual Summer Open House kick-starts the rapid run-up to three months of fun.

Beginning at 5:30 p.m., there’s music, the games open, shops welcome all with open arms, and you won’t stop until well after midnight. The frivolity transpires in many locations, so be sure to hit the open house page on the website. But if you’d like to take a hint, walk to the intersection at Lake and Howard where the crossroads of the evening take roost.

The Summer Fashion Show is the first of the main events at 5:30 p.m. – right smack dab in the middle of the Lake and Howard intersection. Then, from 6 to 8 p.m., the Taste of Downtown, featuring food tents, whisks you into a frenzy of samples from the best restaurants – there are drink tickets available, too.

Speaking of drinks, there is a Drink Tent open from 5:30 to 9 p.m. and all of the proceeds benefit the Little Traverse Bay Humane Society. Included in the tent is live entertainment provided by Sweet Tooth.

Petoskey’s own national treasure, the Steel Drum Band, will ply the streets rocking it’s two-tiered wagon. Seen around the country in famous parades from Chicago to New Orleans, the Petoskey High School tradition is always the highlight of every Petoskey Open House.

Finally, if you’d like to end the night on a quiet note, sit and watch a movie in Pennsylvania Park. “A Dogs Purpose,” based on the novel by W. Bruce Cameron. The lawn is in perfect shape for a blanket, so bring a late snack, sit back, and enjoy.

Whatever you may choose to do or explore, make sure you walk downtown sections of Mitchell, Bay, Lake, Division, Howard, and Petoskey Streets from end to end. You’ll discover alleys, nooks, and crannies that will take you far beyond the sights and sounds and into the quiet alcoves of surprise only Downtown Petoskey can offer.
