Our House is Open

Summer Open House

June 5, 2019

As the curtain of fog rises over the bay, we find our Downtown ready for business and the stage set for all to disengage from a long winter and cold spring.

The annual Open House kicks off at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 7th, and the streets will be open to allow for wandering and shopping, tasting and sipping, and the ability to share the warmth toward summer. Unlike past events, the streets will not be closed due to road construction, so getting into downtown may require a little driving dexterity and some mindfulness of sign changes and pedestrians in places you may not expect. Caution is encouraged.

But once in and settled, enjoy the fashion show at 6 p.m., the Steel Drum Band, Movie in the Park and there’s even a Ghost Walk. Festivities last until 9 p.m. – except for the movie that begins at dark – so take your time and have fun.

Summer Open House includes face painting in the park

There are a few new shops to explore including Populace Coffee Roasters at 207 Howard Street where you’ll find wonderful aromas of coffee and fresh bakery items. Up and around the corner at 304 East Lake Street walk into RANDOM where owner Collin Jenks will welcome you to local artists, gifts and eclectic house items based on the philosophies of Fair Trade. Then as you make your way down Mitchell Street visit Raven’s Nest, a collection of fun and unique items with local artists interspersed among the walls.

If the Open House isn’t enough to bring you back Downtown, remember the Farmer’s Market, on Howard Street between Mitchell and Michigan, begins June 14th and runs each Friday through the summer.

Still not enough? The annual Gallery Walk is slated for Thursday, June 20th and you’ll be able to peruse art galleries and local shops where local artists share their wares.

Between graduations and weddings, take a moment and enjoy the view of life from Downtown Petoskey where sauntering is encouraged, and tradition provides comfort.
