Giving Thanks in November

Giving Thanks in November. Sidewalk Shopping

November 14, 2018

We grovel and we groan. We worry and bemoan. But there comes a time when we realize all isn’t so bad. Around Downtown Petoskey in November, we begin to slow and give thanks to the tourists traveling hundreds and sometimes thousands of miles to visit; the resort patrons who return year after year; the summer homes that grace us with families through generations; and to the incidental traveler who finds us on a whim and vows to return. We thank you all.

Downtown Petoskey would not be the place to visit if it weren’t for the business owners and the dedication of their staff making sure a pleasurable experience meets the expectations of the many. Long hours of preparation and long days in-season are the norm, and those hours continue throughout the late fall and winter months as clean-up, construction, and change drive the calendar to spring so that we’re ready for the next season, and the next, and the next….

Ladies Opening Night in Petoskey

For now, the soft pillowed cushion of leaves has carpeted the parks and byways signaling the fall hunting season, so as an interlude, Friday, November 16 from 5 pm to 10 pm, Downtown Petoskey opens its doors for one last hurrah before the Thanksgiving Holiday. Ladies Opening Night is on ending in Doe Camp at the Perry Hotel for fun and prizes. Come and enjoy the exuberance and begin your Christmas shopping early.

While shopping and giving thanks in November, thank the shop keepers, the associates, servers, bartenders and business owners, thank the many who keep Downtown Petoskey one of the most open and beautiful downtowns anywhere in the country. Walk the parks and sit on a bench, or head to the waterfront for a breath of clean Lake Michigan air filtered through the hundreds of miles of open water, then relax with a glass of wine at any of the casual settings from Mitchell Street to Bay Street.

Fall colors may be on the wane, but the beauty of the north beckons, and the frivolity on a Friday night full of shopping and entertainment is a nice way to say thank you to each of us. Enjoy!
