July 10 - Petoskey Stone Hunt
Hidden treasures will come to light during Petoskey Rocks on July 10th! The Petoskey Masonic Lodge will open their doors to the public for an open house, and the mystery continues throughout the night...

Join the Petoskey Masonic Lodge, located above Dave's Boot Shop, for treats and a tour of the historic building from 7-9pm! The top floor of the building has one of the best views in Downtown! Also, through town hunt through Downtown stores for a glimpse of Chief Ignatius Petoskey! Once you find his image in a store, report his hiding place to the store’s employees for your very own Petoskey stone to take home. The hunt starts at 5 pm.
National Treasure

The city of Petoskey is named after Chief Pe-to-se-ga, which in Ottawa translates to “Rays of the Rising Sun.” The Petoskey name was also adopted for Michigan’s state stone, a fossilized coral found in abundance here whose markings resemble the rays of the sun shining. The area’s ties to the sun’s rays carry on to its infamous catchphrase – the land of the million dollar sunsets. Petoskey has been called that ever since 1873. On a late fall day that year, the train whistled to a stop at the end of its line – Petoskey. On board was a reporter for a Grand Rapids newspaper, who in reporting on the wilderness scenery, rhapsodized about the area’s "million dollar sunsets." Please enjoy taking a piece of Petoskey’s history home with you just in case you need reminding- Petoskey Rocks!

The Ghost Walk starts at 8 pm. The Movie in the Park at Dark is National Treasure, sponsored by the Petoskey Masonic Lodge and North Central Michigan College. The sunset is at 9:29.

Downtown Petoskey is thrilled to announce that in celebration of the 50th anniversary, Sidewalk Sales Days will once again hold an old-fashioned “carnival atmosphere” with the addition of a Ferris Wheel on the corner of Mitchell and Waukazoo! The rides will be free of charge thanks to the sponsorship of the Downtown Management Board, Lite 96.3 & 106 KHQ, Meyer Ace Hardware, and the Petoskey District Library. Sidewalk Sales will be held on July 31 and August 1 with the traditional hours of 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday. Traffic will be diverted to Division Street and Woodland Street to accommodate the Ferris Wheel with part of Waukazoo closed overnight on Friday.

The 50th Anniversary of Sidewalk Sales provides our Downtown merchants with the opportunity to move their stores into the streets, and present their wares in a traditional, old-fashioned sidewalk sales venue.  As always, streets in Downtown Petoskey will be closed off to everything but foot traffic and sidewalk dining options in our fabulous restaurants are available.

In addition to the lure of great bargains in an outdoor festival environment, Sidewalk Sales will also provide entertainment for the entire family with the Farmers Market on Friday on Howard Street between Mitchell and Michigan Streets from 8:30 a.m. to mid-afternoon. In Pennsylvania Park, the Charlotte Ross Lee Concerts in the Park will feature the Jeff Tucker Band at noon on Friday. A quartet from the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra will perform Friday at 2 p.m. in the intersection of Mitchell and Howard Street.

Friday, July 31st is the last day to complete the Where’s Waldo Scavenger Hunt in Downtown Petoskey. A final celebration will be held in Pennsylvania Park at 2 p.m. to hold the prize drawings with treats and games for the kids.
