Known for its scenic beauty, Petoskey is in the heart of one of the Midwest's most popular four-season resort areas. It is the county seat of Emmet County and is home to the historic Gaslight Shopping District, Northern Michigan Hospital and North Central Michigan College.

Petoskey has been listed by authors of The 100 Best Small Towns in America, The Great Towns of America and America's 100 Best Places to Retire and as a National Trust for Historic Preservation Distinctive Destination.  Just recently, Petoskey was listed as #6 on Smithsonian's list of Best Small Towns in America to Visit in 2013.
